Australia cricketers Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell, and D'Arcy Short have promised to donate 250 dollars each for every six they smash in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) to aid the firefighters who are trying to douse bushfires around the country.

Brisbane Heat captain Lynn took to Twitter and wrote, "Hey Guys, for every six I hit in this year's Big Bash League I will donate $250 towards the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal. It is special to see so many athletes from various sports getting in behind the real heroes who are fighting to save lives and properties around our country."

After Lynn's tweet, Maxwell and Short also extended their support for the noble cause.

"Love it Lynny!! I'll match you on $250 per six I hit in this year's BBL. Great cause which is helping so many people around the country who are doing it tough right now," Melbourne Stars skipper tweeted, while Hobart Hurricanes' Short wrote: "Alright I am gonna jump on board and match @lynny50 and @Gmaxi_32 with $250 for every six I hit in the big bash league aswell to donate Red Cross and help those that are doing it tough."

Wild bushfires have been raging through Australia since September 2019, and show no signs of stopping. As per a report in CNN, a total of 17 people have died across the nation, and in the state of New South Wales (NSW) alone, over 900 houses have been destroyed so far.

The report also claims that NSW Rural Fire Service has set up a tourist level zone from NSW coastal town of Batemans Bay down to the Victoria border and has urged all visitors to evacuate before Saturday (January 4).

Devastated by the situation, Australian and New Zealand cricketers sported black armbands on the opening day of the third Test in Sydney as a mark of respect to the victims and firefighters.

Cricket Australia has also decided to contribute the money raised out of the two ODIs versus New Zealand in Sydney later this summer towards the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund.
