Virat Kohli angered by Priyanka Reddy's rape-murder; asks society to take charge to put an end to such tragedies

Hyderabad veterinarian Priyanka Reddy was brutally raped and murdered.

27-year-old veterinary doctor Priyanka Reddy was brutally raped and murdered in Hyderabad on Wednesday (November 27). Her bike was punctured and she was lured in the name of help and gang-raped and strangled and burnt.

While the suspects have now been detained, the killing sparked new outrage in a country that has been in the international spotlight over the safety of women since the brutal gang-rape and murder of 'Nirbhaya' on a Delhi bus in 2012.

After the tragic news broke through, netizens trended the hashtags #RIPPriyankaReddy and #JusticeForPriyankaReddy on Twitter with thousands of posts calling for capital punishment for the culprit.

Indian cricket fraternity too has condemned the heinous crime and demanded justice for Priyanka Reddy.

Indian captain Virat Kohli has reacted after hearing about what Priyanka. He wrote on Twitter, "What happened in Hyderabad is absolutely shameful. It's high time we as a society take charge and put an end to these inhumane tragedies."

His wife, Anushka Sharma also tweeted and demanded justice for Priyanka. "Pain..Anguish..Anger..Frustration..Disbelief.. this is absolutely horrific and should be given the severest of punishments. My thoughts and prayers are with Priyanka’s family. Justice should be served swiftly."
