Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar on Tuesday (October 15) congratulated Sourav Ganguly after the ex-India captain filed his nomination for the BCCI president's post and is all set to be elected unopposed.

Ganguly was the lone candidate applying for the top job on Monday and will take over the post for a period of 10 months before his mandatory cooling off period begins in July 2020.

Taking to Twitter, Tendulkar wrote: “Congrats on being elected the @BCCI President, Dadi. I am sure you will continue to serve Indian Cricket like you always have! Best wishes to the new team that will take charge.”

Sourav Ganguly will be the second Indian captain to hold this high-profile position. Maharajkumar of Vizianagram was the only other skipper to become full-time BCCI president back in 1954.

After securing the post unchallenged, Ganguly said he is fully aware of the tumultuous situation of the cricket board and stressed that getting the house in order is his priority.

"I am taking over at a time when BCCI has not been in greatest of position for the last three years. Its image has got hampered quite a lot. It's a great opportunity for me to do something good," he told PTI.

The 47-year-old also added that his main focus during the short tenure at the helm will be to look after the country's first-class cricketers.

"We will speak to everyone first as we take a decision but my biggest priority will be to look after first class cricketers," Ganguly said. "I had requested that to the CoA for three years and they didn't listen. That's the first thing I will do, look after the financial health of our first-class cricketers."
