Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar on Tuesday (October 15) congratulated Sourav Ganguly after the ex-India captain filed his nomination for the BCCI president's post and is all set to be elected unopposed.

Ganguly was the lone candidate applying for the top job on Monday (October 14) and will take charge as BCCI boss on October 23 – the day of elections in the Indian cricket board.

Akhtar posted a video on his official YouTube channel and hailed Ganguly for transforming Indian cricket. He also termed his former KKR skipper as an honest man and showered rich praises on Sourav’s cricketing brain.

The Rawalpindi Express also feels that international cricket will thrive under the new BCCI president as India controls the ICC in so many ways.

Shoaib further said “I want Test cricket to saved by a great Test cricketer Sourav” and expects the former India skipper to encourage hostile fast bowling.

At the end, Akhtar wished Ganguly all the very best for his new role.

Sourav Ganguly will be the second Indian captain to hold the top position. Maharajkumar of Vizianagram was the only other captain to become full-time BCCI President back in 1954.

Ganguly, who was recently re-elected as the President of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), will have to demit office in July next year due to compulsory cooling off period.
