Indian cricketers pay tribute to former India President APJ Abdul Kalam on his 88th birth anniversary

APJ Abdul Kalam was the 11th President of India serving term from 2002-2007.

October 15 marks the birthday of former India President and Bharat Ratna scientist APJ Abdul Kalam. He was in office from 2002-2007 and is widely regarded as one of the most loved and respected Presidents the country has ever seen.

More than a President, the Bharat Ratna awardee was perhaps one of the most renowned scientists in India, known as the Missle Man of India for his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on this day in 1931 in Rameshwaram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

His work in the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is applauded by the whole world, as he developed and launched successful Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III) and the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). He was also the Chief Project Coordinator for the 1998 Pokhran II Nuclear Tests which made India a nuclear state.

He then succeeded KR Narayanan as the 11th President of India and after leaving the office at the end of his term in 2007, he continued teaching in various institutes like the Indian Institute of Management Shillong, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, and the Indian Institute of Management Indore amongst others.

He passed away on 27th July 2015 while visiting the Indian Institute of Management Shillong to deliver a lecture.  

On his 88th birth anniversary, the cricket fraternity of India paid rich tributes to the great man and his contributions on Twitter.
