Gundappa Viswanath, a name which will always remain immortal in Indian cricket, was one of the finest stroke-makers and his wrist work was always admired.
A journalist, Navneet Mundhra dug out an invaluable batting clip of Viswanath aka Vishy. In the video, he can be seen playing the famous Helicopter shot. The video is from 1979, and the shot doesn't fall short of perfection. The ball delivered by West Indies pacer Norbert Philips was not too full to play that particular shot, but Viswanath was just too good with dexterous shot.
The shot got popular after former India captain MS Dhoni started playing it regularly in the limited-overs format. It was an excellent reply to bowler's full-length deliveries. A failure to apply the yorker accurately used to result in big hits by Dhoni through Helicopter shot.
