Indian cricket fraternity lauds PM Narendra Modi’s Fit India movement

Modi gave the nation a mantra to stay fit and healthy.

Indian PM Modi launched the Fit India initiative on birthday of hockey wizard Maj. Dhyan Chand On August 29, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide ‘Fit India’ movement. He appealed to all citizens to make efforts to stay fit and remain healthy. Today is also the National Sports Day, which commemorates the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.

The event was launched at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi. "Fitness has always been an integral part of our culture. But, there is indifference towards fitness issues now. A few decades back, a normal person would walk 8-10km in a day, do cycling or run. But, with technology, physical activity has reduced. We walk less now and the same technology tells us that we are not walking enough,” PM Modi highlighted.

Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju too said encouraging words towards the Fit India movement, "We will take this movement to new heights with the cooperation of my fellow Indians. I am so glad that this movement is being launched on the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, our hockey wizard.”

On the launch of the program, PM Modi launched a “Fitness Logo”. Additionally, he will launch a “Fitness Pledge” that reads, “I promise to myself that I will devote time for physical activity and sports every day and I will encourage my family members and neighbors to be physically fit and make India a fit nation,” the report added.

The Indian cricket fraternity was elated with PM Modi’s initiative of making the nation fitter and better and lauded his efforts on Twitter.
