Indian cricket fraternity sends birthday wishes to Sourav Ganguly as he turns 47

Ganguly is widely regarded as one of the best leaders of Indian cricket team.

India’s legendary cricketer Sourav Ganguly is celebrating his 47th birthday today (June 8). He is widely regarded as one of the best leaders and a top batsman to have come out from India.

During the course of his 16-year-long illustrious career, Ganguly aggregated 7212 Test runs from 113 matches at an average of 42.17 with 16 hundreds and 35 fifties. Besides, the southpaw also proved his mettle in the limited-overs format, scoring 11363 ODI runs in 311 games at an average of 41.02 including 22 centuries and 72 fifties. 

Moreover, his opening partnership with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in ODIs was one of the talking points of his career. The duo opened in 136 ODI innings together and added 6609 runs between themselves with 21 partnerships of over 100+.  

Under Ganguly's firm leadership, Indian cricket reached new heights over a period of five years (2000-2005). From qualifying to the finals of 2003 World Cup, sharing the 2002 Champions Trophy with Sri Lanka, winning the 2004 Test series in Pakistan and drawing Test series’ in England and Australia – Team India achieved it all and a lot more.

Ganguly hanged up his boots from international cricket in 2008. These days along with administrative roles in CAB and BCCI, the former India captain is also one of the most significant voices in the commentary box.
