Ambati Rayudu, who was once seen as India's potential answer to team's no.4 spot conundrum for ICC World Cup 2019, has now announced retirement from international cricket.

Rayudu was ignored twice for selection in the ongoing World Cup. After Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar's injury, Rishabh Pant and Mayank Agarwal were named as replacements, despite Rayudu being named as standby reserve.

Chief selector MSK Prasad had picked Vijay Shankar over Rayudu for his 3-dimensional qualities but he wasn't too happy with the decision.

Rayudu was given a long run at number 4 by Team India. However, he failed to maintain the consistency and despite some good knocks initially, he wasn't considered. What ruined his chances further is his absolute poor IPL performance. Ironically, he was highlighted for his IPL performance in 2018.

Twitter showed mixed reactions on Rayudu's retirement. Many of them showed sympathy for the Andhra Pradesh cricketer.
