England women’s team are currently hosting West Indies in a three-match T20I series. While the first T20I was abandoned due to persistent rain in Northampton, England won the second match of the series by 42 runs at the same venue on Friday (June 21).
Apart from England’s dominance, the match also witnessed a hilarious incident involving Kate Cross. During West Indies’ innings, the England bowler messed it up big time in affecting a run-out.
One of the Windies batswomen hit the ball to the cover fielder and rushed for a single. The fielder reacted quickly and threw the ball at the non-striker’s end where Cross was standing at the stumps. There was no chance that the batswoman would’ve reached the non-striker’s end had the bowler dislodged the bails.
However, Kate Cross had a brainfade as she didn’t take the bails off and rather threw the ball at the wicketkeeper’s end where there wasn’t any chance of a run-out.
Here’s the video of that incident:
Coming to the match, England rode on Danielle Wyatt’s 55-ball 81 to post 180/6 on the board. In reply, West batswomen struggled to forge a substantial partnership. Linsey Smith and Katherine Brunt claimed two scalps each while Anya Shrubsole, Sophie Ecclestone and Natalie Sciver chipped in with wicket apiece as the home team restricted West Indies to 138/9 in 20 overs.
