Mahendra Singh Dhoni was one of the other Indian batsmen who couldn't quite give Virat Kohli adequate support during the run-chase against Australia in the third ODI at Ranchi. But the great man did bat well while he was there for a fine knock of 26 from 42 balls before he was dismissed by wrist-spinner Adam Zampa.
Despite Kohli's heroics - a well approached and precisely controlled 41st ODI hundred (95-ball 123) - India failed to reach the 314-run target and lost the game by 32 runs.
But amidst all of this, there was one moment of brilliance from MS Dhoni that gave everyone a timely reminder of his astonishing prowess. The 37-year-old, perhaps featuring one final time in front of his home crowd, smashed away a huge six over wide long-on against Nathan Lyon during the 19th over of the Indian innings.
"When Mahendra Singh Dhoni connects, it goes into the crowd," said legendary Sunil Gavaskar at that exact moment while commentating for Star Sports. "This is what they are waiting for. Look at the crowd, look at them. Their favourite son.. they have come to watch exactly this."
And even the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted the apt replay of that tremendous shot over the social media network, Twitter.
