Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has said that he was heartbroken to read a fake story on social media about his brother and ex-Black Caps all-rounder Nathan McCullum’s death.
On Saturday (December 1), fake news circulated on various social media platforms that Nathan had passed away at the age of 38. However, the cricketer himself declared those reports fake as he posted a selfie on Twitter to prove his existence.
“I am alive and kicking more than ever before. Not sure where this news has come from but this is fake. Love you all,” Nathan tweeted.

The false report reached to Brendon as he was flying back to New Zealand having featured in the T10 League in the United Arab Emirates. He also dismissed the erroneous rumour regarding his brother’s demise and vowed to track down the person who spread it.
"Tonight someone decided, via social media, to release that my brother passed away. I'm on a flight back to New Zealand and my heart broke! None of it is true! Whoever put this out there, I'll find you! Somewhere, somehow," Brendon McCullum wrote on Twitter.

Nathan McCullum, the elder brother of Brendon, has retired from international cricket in 2016. Being an off-spinner and a handy lower-order batsman, Nathan represented New Zealand in 84 ODIs and 63 T20Is. While he took 63 wickets in the 50-over format, he claimed 58 scalps in the shortest format of the game.
