Cricketing fraternity wishes VVS Laxman on a very very special 44th birthday

Laxman played 134 Tests, scoring 8781 runs at 45.97 for India.

Former India batsman VVS Laxman turns 44 today and the Hyderabadi legend was wished by everyone on Twitter and on air, as he is doing commentating duties in the ongoing fifth ODI between India and West Indies at Thiruvananthapuram.

Vangipurappu Venkata Sai Laxman was one of the Fab five consisting of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag in one of the golden eras of Indian batting. His has been immortalized for his iconic innings of 281 against Australia in the famous 2001 Kolkata Test, where his innings and partnership with Rahul Dravid and Harbhajan Singh’s bowling helped India win the Test despite being asked to follow-on.

That inning has been rated as the greatest Test performance of the last 50 years. Laxman, who made his Test debut for India in 1996 against South Africa, represented the country in 134 Tests, scoring 8781 runs at 45.97. He retired from the game in 2012 and now is a popular commentator.

Today, he celebrates his 44th birthday and was showered with wishes from cricket fraternity on Twitter.
