Former South Africa speedster Allan Donald recently named his all-time dream XI and surprisingly didn’t pick any Asian cricketers in it. Donald’s picks are based on his experience of playing cricket with or against the great players or someone who had strongly influenced him.
Donald, who has represented South Africa in 72 Tests and 164 ODIs, opted to go with two Aussies –Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer – as an opener. For the crucial No. 3 position, Donald preferred his former teammate Jacques Kallis. He termed Kallis as ‘probably the greatest cricketer of all time’.
Allan Donald picked two Caribbean batting maestros, Brian Lara and Sir Viv Richards, for No. 4 and No. 5 slots while he went with AB de Villiers and Adam Gilchrist for the 6th and 7th batting positions.
While picking the bowlers, Donald first choice was the spin king Shane Warne. He chose Malcolm Marshall, Curtly Ambrose and Glenn McGrath as the first bowling options in his fantasy XI.
Meanwhile, Donald has been criticized heavily in the comment section of Lord's Cricket Ground’s official YouTube channel for ignoring the Asian cricketers while forming the all-time best XI. Despite playing against the legendary names like Sachin Tendulkar, Wasim Akram, Imran, Rahul Dravid, Kapil Dev, Kumar Sangakkara among others, Donald didn’t find any of them worthy to be a part of his dream team.
