Vancouver Knights and CWI B Team locked horns in the final of the inaugural Global T20 Canada League at Maple Leaf North-West Ground, King City on Sunday (July 15).

Leading the Vancouver Knights, swashbuckling West Indies opener Chris Gayle didn’t have the best of time with the willow as Derval Green removed him for just 2 runs. However, Gayle was at the top of his game on the field.

He displayed remarkable reflexes to get rid of CWI B all-rounder Kavem Hodge. During the last delivery of 14th over, Hodge went on the back foot to cut a leg-break off Fawad Ahmed. Unfortunately for Hodge, the ball took the thick outside edge and flew quickly to Gayle's left at first slip.

The Vancouver captain went to his left with one hand but couldn’t hold on as the ball bounced off his palm. Gayle, however, has a second chance or rather created an opportunity by pulling out his right hand. Despite losing the balance, he continuously watched the ball and eventually plucked it on a rebound.

Here’s the video:

Even though Gayle failed with the bat, his team secured a comprehensive 7-wicket victory over CWI B to lift the first ever Global T20 Canada League trophy. Saad Bin Zafar was the hero in final as he scored 79 runs off 48 balls (8 fours and 3 sixes) to help Vancouver Knights chase down the target of 146 with 15 balls to spare.
