Watch – Virat Kohli presented with the ICC Test Championship Mace by Graeme Pollock and Sunil Gavaskar

India secured the ICC Test Championship mace for the fourth time.

Virat Kohli first secured the mace in October 2016

Indian captain Virat Kohli had more than just the T20I series win to celebrate in Cape Town. He was also presented with the ICC Test Championship Mace after the conclusion of the T20I series presentation. The ICC Test Championship Mace is presented to the captain of the team that finished at the top of the ICC Test team rankings.

The mace was presented to Kohli by ICC Hall of Famers India’s Sunil Gavaskar and South Africa’s Graeme Pollock. Team India also pocketed USD 1 million as the prize money.

Virat Kohli expressed delight after receiving the mace and said, “Having received it twice in a row is a special feeling.” Crediting the team-management he said, “The support staff have done all the hard work. We are looking forward to tours to England and Australia.

I’d say we are still 80% (as a Test unit). When we are able to achieve what we want to in the two tours, we’ll be more content. But our 80% is also exciting. To be a world class side, you have to be 100%, “he concluded by saying.

Here is the video of Virat Kohli receiving the mace from the two legends:

India had cemented their no.1 spot by beating South Africa in the 3rd and final Test of the series last month. This meant that no team could surpass their tally of 121 points before the cut-off date of April 3. This is the fourth time Team India has secured the mace. They had previously won it in 2010 and 2011 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Virat Kohli later reclaimed it in October 2016 before laying his hands on it once again on Saturday at Cape Town.
