Rahul Dravid during his playing days
Former India captain and one of the best batsmen at the no.3 position, Rahul Dravid celebrates his 45th birthday today.
Dravid made his Test debut for India in 1996 against England and played his last Test against Australia in Adelaide in 2012. Dravid played a massive 164 Test matches and amassed 13288 runs at an average of 52.31. He hammered 36 centuries, with the highest score of 270, and 68 half-centuries during his 16-year career.
Dravid along with Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman formed one of the most fearsome batting line ups in Test cricket history. Dravid played his cricket selflessly throughout his career, as he even kept wickets for a very long time in order to keep the balance of the team perfect.
Touted as a Test specialist, Rahul Dravid carved out a brilliant ODI career as well. He played 344 matches and scored 10889 runs, with 12 centuries at an average of 39.16 and the highest score of 153.
Many of his fellow cricketers and admirers took to Twitter to wish Dravid on his birthday today and we have some tweets here.
Happy birthday, Rahul Bhai. A thorough gentleman who taught us the meaning of commitment and sacrifices. Getting my ODI and Test caps from you will always hold a special place in my heart.
