India’s first ever World Cup winning captain and one of the greatest all-rounders in the world, turns 59 today.

Kapil Dev is widely considered to be the greatest all-rounder and fast bowler ever produced by India. He not only gave the spin crazy Indian fans a fast bowling role model, but also won India its first World Cup in 1983.

Known for his lethal out swing and an action that was emulated by many young bowlers, Kapil Dev was the first player to do the all-rounder's double of 100 wickets and 1000 runs just at the age of 21. He was also never run out in his entire career. Kapil Dev was the second bowler to pick up 400 Test wickets and first Indian to take 250 ODI wickets, including a hat-trick.

Kapil’s best bowling in Tests was 9/83 against West Indies in 1983 and highest score in Tests was 163, which came against Sri Lanka in 1986.

Whole of the cricket fraternity took to Twitter to wish one of the most beloved cricketers in the world- the one and only Kapil Dev.
