The ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL 2026) is seeing some interesting matches and has, for the first time, seen Steve Smith playing in Pakistan. Smith is playing for Multan Sultans and has helped the franchise attain the top spot in the PSL 2026 points table after five matches.
Recently, an interesting incident came to light involving Smith and Sultan's opener Sahibzada Farhan, which has gone viral on social media.
In a match between Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans, Farhan denied Smith a single on the final ball of an over, even though the Australian was eager to take it. The most recent event took place on Sunday.
Smith sought to maintain strike for the fourth over by taking a single on the last ball of the third over after getting Multan Sultans off to a quick start. But Farhan refused to give him a run.
Social media users likened the situation to the Big Bash League (BBL) match between Steve Smith and Pakistani player Babar Azam, in which Smith kept strike by denying Babar a single. While playing for the Sydney Sixers in January 2026, Smith denied Babar a single during the 'Power Surge' phase. Babar emerged shortly after, looking furious.
Fans on the internet connected Farhan's denial of Smith's single status to Smith's rejection of Babar. Some even referred to it as "revenge".
