Adam Zampa played a pivotal role in Karachi Kings’ four-wicket victory over Lahore Qalandars in Match 6 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 at Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday (March 29).

The Australian spinner produced economical figures of 2-11 in his four overs, including a maiden, and was named Player of the Match. His scalps included top-scorer Abdullah Shafique (33) and Usama Mir.

Zampa-starrer Karachi Kings are scheduled to play their next match against Rawalpindi Pindiz on Thursday (April 2).

Ahead of the fixture, Adam Zampa opened up on his decision to play in the PSL instead of the more lucrative and star-studded Indian Premier League (IPL).

Despite having represented multiple IPL franchises—including Rising Pune Supergiant, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad—he chose not to feature in the 350-player shortlist for the 2026 auction.

In a video doing rounds on social media, Zampa explained that the financial compensation in the IPL did not align with his specific skill set or the significant time commitment the tournament requires.

"Yeah, well, I wasn’t really on the radar. I pulled out of the IPL this year. To be brutally honest, someone with my skill set doesn’t usually attract the kind of money that other skill sets do. Considering the time commitment the IPL requires, it didn’t feel like a reasonable choice for me to continue playing it," Zampa said.

"I was planning to take a break, but then the PSL came into the picture about a month ago. It’s all happened pretty quickly, but I’m enjoying it," he added.

In 2024, Adam Zampa pulled out of his INR 1.5 crore contract with Rajasthan Royals, citing that he was "completely drained" from a heavy international schedule and wanted to prioritize his young family and mental health.

For the 2025 season, the leg-spinner was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 2.4 crore. He played only two matches before being ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury

In contrast, his 2026 PSL contract with Karachi Kings is valued at approximately PKR 4.5 crore (roughly ₹1.51 crore), which is notably lower than some of his previous IPL earnings but aligns with his desire for a shorter playing window.
