Harshit Rana has been a valuable asset to the Indian team, particularly in the white-ball format. Constantly backed by Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir, Harshit Rana made his India debut in 2024 in Tests and last year in white-ball cricket.
He has provided India with the ability of someone who bowls at 140kph and can tonk a few balls at no.8 in the batting order. Rana has shown glimpses of brilliance with both bat and ball in recent times across all three formats.
The fast bowler from Delhi played in the Asia Cup 2025, which India won by defeating Pakistan in the final on September 28, 2025, and before that was part of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 winning Indian team.
He has also been named in India’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad that’ll be played in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 onwards.
Meanwhile, Harshit Rana opened up about his bond with Kohli and also recalled his first meeting with Kohli’s wife, actress Anushka Sharma.
Rana remembers seeing Anushka Sharma for the first time in his life as he went into the Indian dressing room following India's victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final in Dubai.
Rana claims that because it was their first meeting with her, he addressed Anushka as "ma'am." In response, Kohli pulled his leg, asking why he was addressing her as "ma'am" and suggesting that he should refer to her as "bhabhi."
“I entered the dressing room, and Anushka Sharma was also there. I was meeting her for the first time. So I called her ‘ma’am’. Then he told me, ‘Tu ma’am kyu bol raha hai inko? Bhabhi bol inko’, (Why are you calling her ‘ma’am? Call her bhabhi)" Harshit recalled on a podcast.
“I told him that I am meeting her for the first time. Then he told her that I am like that, and just some time ago I poured champagne on him, and I am calling you ‘ma’am’ now," he added.
Harshit Rana has 37 wickets across formats for India in 22 games in his short career.
