Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan achieved an undesirable feat in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) on Monday (January 12), becoming the first overseas player to be retired out.
Playing for Melbourne Renegades against Sydney Thunder, Rizwan struggled to get quick runs while batting at No. 4. He could only score 26 runs in 23 balls, including 10 runs off his last 12 deliveries, before being called back by the Renegades.
Renegades captain Will Sutherland, who was seen waving at Rizwan to return to the dugout, replaced him at the crease. However, the move did not make much of a difference from the Renegades’ perspective.
When Rizwan left the field, Melbourne Renegades were 154/5 in 18 overs and they managed to add only 16 runs in the final two overs to finish at 170/8.
Sidelined from Pakistan’s T20I squad, Mohammad Rizwan has failed to make a mark in the ongoing BBL, amassing 167 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of just above 100. He was one of the high-profile overseas signings in the BBL, but his performance has been underwhelming so far.
