A viral nets video has put India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson on the spotlight ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, slated to be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
The clip shows Samson receiving batting tips from legendary white-ball cricketer Yuvraj Singh, sparking fresh buzz about the latter potentially mentoring another Indian player at a crucial time.
Yuvraj has worked closely with several young players in recent years, including Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. While Gill has become India’s Test and ODI captain, Abhishek has established himself as a first-choice opener in T20Is.
Samson now seems to be the latest player to seek guidance from Yuvraj. The Kerala batter looked to be fully engaged during the nets session.
In the clip, Yuvraj was seen offering him important advice, likely from his own experience of thriving under pressure in marquee events. For Samson, this interaction comes at a crucial point in his career, with opportunities and expectations both running high.
Notably, Sanju Samson has been reinstated as India’s first-choice opener in T20Is after Shubman Gill's failure at the top of the order. He is likely to open the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Samson’s immediate focus will be India's five-match T20I series against New Zealand, starting January 21 in Nagpur.
