India’s middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer almost got bitten by a fan's dog at the airport days before his ODI comeback. He was out of action for two months due to a spleen injury sustained in Australia.
Iyer proved his match fitness in the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy and is all set to mark his international return in the ODI series against New Zealand, starting January 11 in Vadodara.
However, the 31-year-old nearly encountered another mishap ahead of his much-awaited return.
In a video doing rounds on social media, Shreyas Iyer was seen walking out of the airport, where a fan approached him for an autograph. He happily obliged and few seconds later, another person appeared carrying a dog in her hand. Iyer tried to lovingly pet it, but he almost got bitten in the process.
Shreyas Iyer played a couple of matches for Mumbai in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. Leading the side and batting at No. 4 against Himachal Pradesh, the right-hander played a fluent knock of 82 off 53 balls and followed it with 34-ball 45 in the next fixture versus Punjab.
Iyer showed no signs of discomfort during or after the innings, removing doubts over his physical readiness for international cricket.
