Jemimah Rodrigues played a key role in India’s maiden Women’s World Cup triumph last year. The highlight of her performance was the knock of 127* against Australia in the semi-final in Navi Mumbai, where India chased down a world record 338 runs.
Before the World Cup final, Gavaskar had promised that he would sing alongside Jemimah on guitar if India lift the coveted title.
As India emerged victorious, Gavaskar honoured his word on the eve of the Women’s Premier League. In a heartwarming moment shared on social media, Jemimah and Gavaskar met, with the latter presenting the former a gift bag and a custom guitar shaped like a bat. The duo then sang together, with Jemimah strumming the guitar.
“Sunil sir kept his promise and we ended up jamming with the coolest Bat-ar ever!! This was a special one,” Jemimah captioned the post shared on her Instagram account.
India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final at DY Patil Stadium on November 2 to clinch their maiden Women’s World Cup title. Jemimah scored 24 off 37 balls in the summit clash.
