Legendary Australian pacer Glenn McGrath gave a hilarious reaction when Nathan Lyon went past him on the list of the bowlers with most Test wickets. Nathan Lyon, who was benched for the first two Tests of the ongoing Ashes 2025-26 series, attained this milestone in the ongoing third Test of the series, being played in Adelaide.
Australia had posted 371 runs in their first innings, with their innings closing on day two of the Test match. As the England innings began, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon reduced them to 71/4 with Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope falling for single-digit scores.
Ben Duckett, who had galloped his way to 29 in 30 balls with five fours, was clean bowled by Lyon. This wicket meant that Lyon became Australia’s second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, moving beyond McGrath’s career tally of 563 wickets. Only Shane Warne, with 708 wickets, is now ahead of Lyon in the list.
Television cameras soon focused on McGrath, who was on screen, mock-fuming in his chair and pretending to hurl it away in exaggerated irritation – a lighthearted response that swiftly spread on social media.

Though England mounted a sort of comeback with Harry Brook (45), Ben Stokes (45*) and Jofra Archer making 30*, they ended day two on 213/8, still 158 runs behind. Pat Cummins picked 3/54, while Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon picked two wickets each.
