Dharmendra, the legendary Indian film actor, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, morning at his Mumbai home following a brief illness. He was 89. Dharmendra died just days before his 90th birthday on December 8, 2025.
His last rituals were held at the Pawan Hans crematorium. Dharmendra was brought to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on October 31 after complaining about shortness of breath.
Several celebrities, including Dharmendra's second wife, Hema Malini, co-stars Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan, and other actors Sanjay Dutt and Aamir Khan, attended the actor's funeral amid tight security.
Dharmendra was born on December 8, 1935, as Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol Nasrali in Ludhiana, Punjab. He won the Filmfare magazine talent hunt in 1960 and made his Bollywood debut in Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. Dharmendra played the hero in women-centric movies in his early career, slowly becoming a superstar due to his brilliant acting and powerful onscreen presence.
He went on to star in over 300 movies in his Bollywood career, with some notable movies like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Aankhein, Jugnu, Pratigya, Hukumat, Yaadon Ki Baarat, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Dharam Veer, and Apne, to name a few.
He continued working well into his 80s, with Anurag Basu's 'Life in a... Metro and Karan Johar's 'Rocky Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' were his recent releases. His last screen appearance was in 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya' alongside Kriti Sanon and Shahid Kapoor.
Dharmendra also produced many movies for his sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, including Ghayal and Barsaat.
He married Prakash Kaur in 1954, with whom he has two sons, actors Sunny and Bobby Deol, and then married Hema Malini, with whom he has two daughters, Esha and Aahna Deol.
Today, as the world and Bollywood mourn the passing of one of the true giants of the movie industry, the Indian cricket fraternity was also touched by Dharmendra, and many of them were fans of his movies.
