The Asia Cup 2025 saw India facing Pakistan on the cricket field for the first time since the heinous Pahalgam terror attack, which led to India launching Operation Sindoor on terrorist camps across the border.
The Men in Blue locked horns with their arch-rivals three times in the continental event and emerged victorious on all occasions, including the final in Dubai on September 28.
The major talking point from all three clashes was Team India’s decision to avoid shaking hands with the Pakistani players, who also engaged in provocative gestures.
After the final, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side refused to accept the trophy and medal from the ACC and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who posted anti-India sentiments on social media throughout the tournament.
The no-handshake policy between India and Pakistan continued in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 and the ongoing Asia Cup Rising Stars.
However, former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was seen shaking hands with Pakistan’s Shahnawaz Dahani during the Abu Dhabi T10 League on Wednesday (November 19), a star contrast to the recent trend.
The moment unfolded after Harbhajan’s side, Aspin Stallions, lost to Northern Warriors by four runs at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.
The brief exchange of smiles and pleasantries caught attention because Harbhajan himself had taken a strong stance earlier this year. He, alongside former India stars Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, and the Pathan brothers, pulled out of a match against Pakistan in the World Championship of Legends, citing national sentiment. Their withdrawal resulted in India Champions forfeiting the semi-final.
No wonder, Harbhajan's friendly gesture for Dahani on the cricket field drew sharp reactions on social media.
