India’s Women’s World Cup-winning captain Harmanpreet Kaur revealed that legendary India batter and 2011 World Cup winner Sachin Tendulkar had called the team the night before the World Cup final and shared some wise words with the players.
India defeated South Africa in the final of the Women’s World Cup 2025 by 52 runs after scoring 298/7 thanks to Shafali Verma’s 87 runs. Though Laura Wolvaardt scored 101, South Africa was dismissed for 246 runs. Deepti Sharma shone with 5/39 along with her 58, and Shafali Verma also chimed in with two wickets as well.
Harmanpreet Kaur has revealed how Sachin Tendulkar, who witnessed the final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, called the team and shared his experience, and asked the team to maintain the balance.
“The night before the match, Sachin (Tendulkar) sir called. He shared his experience and asked us to keep our balance. When the game is going fast, just slow it down a little. Try and control it because when you go too fast, chances are you can stumble. That’s what we need to avoid. I was just thinking of all the advice I was getting from the seniors. To keep control, stay patient; the moment will come, and you will be able to grasp it,” Harmanpreet said in a video shared by ICC.
Shafali Verma won the Player of the Match, and Deepti Sharma won the Player of the Tournament.
Harmanpreet became India's first female captain and third overall, following Kapil Dev (1983) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (2011) in lifting a senior World Cup trophy.
“To be honest, I’m not able to think about this right now. Maybe I will realize after a few months what we have achieved. What we have given our country. I can’t process this right now. I spoke about the same with Amol (Muzumdar), sir; it feels like we have won some bilateral series and we’re going back home. The impact of it is something we’ll realize in a few months. Right now, it just feels like a dream," Harmanpreet said.
