Nana Patekar, a veteran actor in Hindi and Marathi cinema, passed away at the age of 75 on October 8, 2026. He was at his residence in Goa when he suffered a massive cardiac arrest and passed away, getting CPR for 45 minutes straight.
Patekar was in Goa’s Dona Paula for an event and joined a local troupe to play the traditional shamel, a musical instrument, and perform the dekhni dance, a local art form.
As per an ANI report, Patekar was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. He was subsequently rushed to a hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.
Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, stated that despite 45 minutes of continuous CPR, the actor could not be revived. Furthermore, a medico-legal case (MLC) has been filed, and a post-mortem is being performed. GMC Dean JP Tiwari has assembled a team of three doctors for the autopsy.
Nana Patekar will receive a state funeral, as confirmed by Maharashtra Culture Minister Ashish Shelar. The Devendra Fadnavis government decided this in recognition of the late artist's matchless contribution to Marathi theater, Marathi cinema, and Hindi film.
Born as Vishwanath Patekar in 1951 in Maharashtra, Nana Patekar’s journey into the world of acting started in the late 1970s. Patekar was known for his intense roles in Hindi and Marathi movies. Some of his most loved cinematic pieces include 'Parinda,' 'Prahaar,' 'Angaar,' 'Krantiveer,' 'Agni Sakshi,' 'Yashwant,' 'Ab Tak Chhappan,' 'Apaharan,' 'Welcome,' and 'Natsamrat,' among several others.
Patekar won the National Award thrice and the Filmfare Award four times, among other felicitations. He was also awarded the Padma Shri in 2013 by the Indian government.
His untimely demise sent shockwaves not only in the Indian film industry but also in the cricket fraternity. Members of the Indian cricket fraternity shared their condolences and tributes on social media.
