South Africa and Australia clashed in the second ODI of the three-match series in Johannesburg on September 27, 2026. South Africa led the series 1-0, and Australia needed a win to level the series. Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Though Aiden Markram (0) and Quinton de Kock (15) got out early, no. 3 Matthew Breetzke made 34, captain Temba Bavuma and David Miller hit centuries to take South Africa to a big score.
Bavuma made 103 runs with 10 fours and 2 sixes, while Miller made his ODI best 142 in 93 balls with 12 fours and 9 sixes to his name. Duan Jansen contributed 27* as South Africa made 365/9 in 50 overs.
In response, both Australian openers, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, made 84 each, but Proteas bowlers pulled the chase back with regular wickets. Even Xavier Bartlett’s 50 couldn’t help Australia, who were bowled out for 333 runs and lost the second ODI by 32 runs.
There was also an on-field altercation between the South African team captain, Bavuma, and the wicketkeeper, Quinton de Kock. This took place during the 48th over during a DRS call involving Xavier Bartlett.
Following the review option by Bavuma, he turned to de Kock and made an aggressive remark as Quinton de Kock said something to him. Then De Kock got upset and retorted strongly to his captain. The players freely used 'the F word' during this heated exchange regarding the DRS review process.
Proteas players Marco Jansen and David Miller tried to calm the two players down, but from a safe distance, considering the state of the conversation.

Eventually, Bavuma’s late DRS call was in South Africa’s favour, as the decision was overturned and Bartlett was given out LBW.
The third and final ODI of the series will be played on September 30 at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom.
