Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has shared a video from a Nidan Center for elderly care in Thane. He talked about his time at the center and praised their facilities and care provided to him. The short video clip surfaced online, reassuring well-wishers while shedding light on his ongoing recovery.
The video comes amidst growing concerns about the declining health of the 52-year-old ex-India and Mumbai batter. Over the last few years, Kambli has faced various health difficulties.
He had an angioplasty in 2013, and he was hospitalized in Thane owing to health challenges such as urinary infections, movement problems, and cerebral clotting that suggested possible stroke and memory problems.
Public appearances like that of the event held in the year 2024 at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, in the presence of his trusted friend Sachin Tendulkar, indicated that Kambli was very frail and needed help walking.
Such instances have resulted in prominent former Indian cricketers like Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar offering him help for rehabilitation.
In the video, Kambli is seen talking straight to the camera, praising the hygiene, cleanliness, and facilities of the old age home that he currently lives in. This video has been shared on X, garnering wide attention.
“I am Vinod Kambli. And where I am... I am in Nidan. I have received very good facilities, and I would say hygiene and all; everything is first class. Here, nowhere does it feel like I am not at home. I have received a lot of love from the people here,” Kambli said in the video.
Kambli is often included in lists of cricketers who failed to realize their full potential. He made his India debut in 1991 and went on to play 17 Test matches, scoring 1,084 runs at a brilliant average of 54.20, including four centuries.
He was the first Indian batter to score two consecutive double centuries in Tests and remains the fastest Indian to reach 1,000 Test runs, having reached the milestone in just 14 innings.
Kambli also played 104 ODI matches, accumulating 2,477 runs at an average of 32.59 with two centuries and 14 half-centuries. He was part of the Indian squads for the 1992 and 1996 World Cups.
