South Africa’s Marco Jansen made quite a name for himself with his excellent batting and fielding efforts in the recent first ODI against Australia that was played in Durban on September 24, 2026.   Australia captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Matthew Breetzke made 112 runs, and Marco Jansen made 75 off 59 balls, helping South Africa reach 297/8 in 50 overs. Temba Bavuma (30) and Ryan Rickelton (27) were the other major contributors, while Nathan Ellis picked 3/57 for Australia.

In response, Mitchell Marsh made 60, while Travis Head (36) and Cooper Connolly (38) provided good support. However, Australia lost wickets at regular intervals as Keshav Maharaj (4/20) and two wickets each by Bjorn Fortuin and Corbin Bosch kept the Kangaroos under pressure.

However, Matt Renshaw made 44 runs with 6 fours to keep Australia’s hopes alive, but the Kangaroos only managed 230 runs in 41.2 overs and lost the first ODI by 67 runs.

Renshaw was looking good and dangerous, and South Africa needed his wicket urgently. At the very second ball of the 37th over, South Africa pacer Gerald Coetzee kept the ball on the short side of the left-handed Matt Renshaw, to which the latter responded with a pull shot.

The ball went flying towards the mid-wicket fence and looked like it was going to go beyond the fence. But the boundary was being guarded by none other than Marco Jansen, known for his tall height and long reach.  

He extended his right hand after covering much of the ground and slid his way in for a one-handed catch. The ball was caught by Marco Jansen using just his two fingers, his thumb and index finger, and he then bent his wrist to keep it away from the ground.
