Mohammad Yousuf, former Pakistan captain, praised Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief and ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi for the recent Women’s Asia Cup 2026 trophy fiasco. Indian women defeated Sri Lankan women in the final in Dubai on September 13 to win the tournament.
However, like the Indian men’s team, who had refused to take the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi after winning the Asia Cup 2025, also in Dubai, the Indian women’s team also refused to take the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi.
Naqvi waited for a while after giving away runners-up medals and a cheque to Sri Lanka women's players, but with the Indian women’s team refusing to come out to take the medals and trophy from him, he left the stadium and the venue.
In one of his posts on X, Yousuf referred to India as “a country without humility,” where their pride had been transformed into “arrogance,” which would not bring any trophies but “only heels on heads.”
“When national pride turns into arrogance, victory brings no reward. A team may win, but a nation without humility remains a loser! No trophy, only heels on heads. #WellDone #MohsinNqvi" Yousuf wrote on X.
The rejection of the trophy by India from Naqvi, lies on the premise that India had already suffered an attack in Pahalgam. In addition to being the ACC chief, Naqvi is the interior minister of Pakistan, and during the 2025 Asia Cup, both the BCCI and the men’s team decided not to shake hands with the Men in Green.
The decision to ignore him after the match had been made previously; hence, it ended up with the PCB chief bringing the trophy to the ACC office in Dubai.
The Indian fans responded to the comment made by Yousuf very passionately, emphasizing the problems that have persisted in Pakistan for a long time. In fact, there were some fans from the side of Pakistan who did not appreciate Naqvi’s compliment either.
