Rahul Dravid, former India captain, has named MS Dhoni as the best captain ever. He also picked Pakistani legend Imran Khan over Indian star Virat Kohli when it came to who was the better captain in a fun segment on the sidelines of the ongoing European T20 Premier League (ETPL 2026).

In a video published by Cricinfo, Dravid played the 'winner stays on' game, choosing Steve Smith over Ben Stokes, Pat Cummins, Arjuna Ranatunga, Kane Williamson, Graeme Smith, Eoin Morgan, Stephen Fleming, and Michael Clarke.

When Ponting's name was mentioned, Dravid, the owner of the Dublin Guardians in the ETPL, moved on from Smith. He chose the latter over Allan Border, and when the legendary Australian was offered as the next option, he went with Steve Waugh.

Steve Waugh won the 1999 World Cup as Australia's captain, kickstarting the Kangaroos’ dominance in the 2000s. Ponting, who took over from Steve Waugh, won two consecutive World Cups in 2003 and 2007 as Australia's captain.

Dravid chose Kohli without hesitation when his name was called, but he wasn’t able to overcome Pakistan’s legendary captain Imran Khan, who won the 1992 World Cup. “For what he did, Imran Khan," Dravid said while explaining his reason for picking Imran over Kohli.

Kohli’s biggest achievement was winning the 2018-19 Test series against Australia Down Under.

Dhoni was selected ahead of Imran and Sir Clive Lloyd at the end of the segment by Rahul Dravid. Imran and Lloyd are considered to be among the best leaders in cricket history. The West Indies dominated international cricket under Lloyd, winning the World Cups in 1975 and 1979.

MS Dhoni remains the only captain to win all three white-ball ICC tournaments in the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
