Saim Ayub was one of the seven players who were flown in by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to replace the players who had been ordered to go back home after Pakistan lost the first two Tests to England in the ongoing three-game series.

Before the third Test in Birmingham, Saim Ayub was flown in to England while he was playing the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and had scored a century there. However, transitioning that success to Test cricket proved to be a difficult task for the youngster.

Saim Ayub had scored a 10-ball duck in the first Pakistani innings, as the team was bowled out for 133 runs. Pakistan needed Saim to score runs in the second innings, after they trailed by 320 runs. However, Ollie Robinson had the southpaw caught in the slips by Harry Brook on the first ball of the innings.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain believes the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee should be held accountable for Ayub's lack of preparation, which was fully exposed.

"The truth is he shouldn't be here. He came from the CPL and hasn't played first-class cricket in some time. I don't know who thinks it's the right thing to fly someone over from foreign conditions, playing a completely different format, and think they're going to be fine in these conditions against a Dukes ball, against Ollie Robinson, and against England's bowling attack," Hussain asserted on the post-day show on Sky Sports.

PCB was slammed for their knee-jerk reaction and constantly chopping and changing the players and coach. Hussain believes that the way the Pakistan board is conducting business indicates that the authorities aren't treating Test cricket with the dignity it merits.

"It is just a sort of disrespect and disregard for Test match cricket. Test match cricket, as any cricketer will tell you, is the toughest format. Batting at the top of the order in England is the toughest task, and you just feel you can fly someone in from some part of the world and go, Good luck," he said.

Hussain further cemented his point with an example of Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who was once flown into England during the 2011 Test series without much preparation. Sehwag ended up scoring a king pair, getting out for a duck on the first ball in both innings, as India lost the Test by an innings and 242 runs.

“Virender Sehwag tried it on this ground, if you remember... they flew him in. Virender Sehwag got a pair, and that's Virender Sehwag, who's a better, more experienced player than Saim. So a bit of responsibility goes to the lad for the shot he played. But also, whoever thought that was a seriously good decision and that he was going to go okay this week?” Hussain stated.
