On Saturday, August 15, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin listed his top three Indian Test batters. Obviously, record-holder of most centuries and runs in the Test format, Sachin Tendulkar was named by Ashwin

However, one of the best batters of his generation and the first player in history to reach 10,000 runs in Test cricket, the former India opener Sunil Gavaskar, did not make Ashwin's choice of the top three Indian Test batters.

Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, and Sachin Tendulkar are Ashwin's top three Test hitters, according to a Cricinfo video.

Virat Kohli finished his India Test career with 9,230 runs in 123 matches between 2011 and 2025. He is fourth on the list of India’s highest run-scorers in Test cricket. He hit 30 centuries at an average of 46.85 with the highest score of 254*.

Rahul Dravid made 13288 runs in 164 Tests, at an average of 52.31 with 36 centuries and a best score of 270.

Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar made 15921 runs in a record 200 Tests, at an average of 53.78 with a best score of 248* and 51 centuries.

Gavaskar missed out on Ashwin’s top 3 of the Indian Test batters, but he was included in the top five list along with VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag.
