Australia and Bangladesh clashed in the first of the two-Test series at the Marrara Stadium in Darwin from August 13, 2026 onwards. Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bat first.
However, the decision backfired as Australia was bowled out for 198 runs in their first innings. Steve Smith top-scored with 71, while Travis Head (22) and Jake Weatherald (23) were the only other batters to cross the 20-run mark.
Hasan Mahmud starred for Bangladesh with 6/55, while Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain picked two wickets each.
During Australia’s innings, a fan made things lively and hilarious with a well-timed comment on Australia great Steve Smith. The dependable Steve Smith was entrusted with saving Australia from collapse on the opening day of the Test. But at one point in his innings, he had to stop play because of sight screen issues, and the fan was not amused.
The fan requested Smith to resume batting in a funny yet angry tone as the wait went on.
"Just hit the damn thing, Smudge (Smith's nickname). Stop being a princess. You are not bigger than the game, Steve, deal with it," said the fan in a video posted by Fox Cricket on their Instagram handle.
At the time of writing this piece, Bangladesh had made 62/1 in their first innings, with Mitchell Starc removing Shadman Islam for 20 runs.
