Rishabh Pant, ex-India Test vice-captain, was recently seen training in Jharkhand with MS Dhoni ahead of the two-Test series between Sri Lanka and India that begins in Galle on August 15. The second Test of the two-match series will be played in Colombo from August 23 onwards.
Pant has been named in the Indian squad for the Sri Lanka Tests, which remains the only format Pant plays for India in recent times. His last ODI and T20I game both came against Sri Lanka in 2024, while his last Test appearance came against Afghanistan at home in 2026.
Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul and Sanju Samson are currently the preferred keeper-batters in white-ball cricket, while Dhruv Jurel is making a name for himself with the gloves and the bat in Test cricket.
Pant also had a difficult time in IPL 2026, scoring only 312 runs at an average of 28.36 and a strike rate of 138.05 as LSG, the franchise he captained, finished in the 10th spot. After the tournament, Rishabh Pant was traded from LSG to Delhi Capitals in place of Kuldeep Yadav.
In an effort to upgrade his game with the bat and the keeping gloves, Rishabh Pant has gone to MS Dhoni for guidance, who is considered one of the best wicketkeepers of all time and one of the most destructive batters.
In some viral videos, MS Dhoni and Rishabh Pant are seen driving around in Jharkhand with the legendary India captain behind the wheel. In another video, even Dhoni’s wife Sakshi Dhoni is seen with the duo.
