Former India captain Suryakumar Yadav has given his first reactions after being sacked as India’s T20I skipper and dropped from the team as well. This came after BCCI announced Team India T20I squads for the Ireland and England tour and the 2026 Asian Games.
Shreyas Iyer has been named the new India T20I captain, with Tilak Varma as his deputy. On the other hand, Suryakumar was snubbed from the team despite winning the Men in Blue the T20 World Cup recently.
However, Ajit Agarkar reasoned that the decision was taken keeping the future and next T20 World Cup 2028 in mind. Suryakumar lost his spot in the Indian team, given his poor form since becoming the India T20I captain and in the recent IPL 2026.
Suryakumar shared the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) T20I squad graphic on Instagram in his first response to the team announcement.
‘Wishing this highly skilled group all the best for challenges ahead’ with a few emojis, including the Indian flag and a ‘nazar’, Suryakumar Yadav posted on his Instagram story.

One of the biggest news items from the squad announcement was the inclusion of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the Indian T20I squad. Sooryavanshi’s performances for junior India teams and for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL over the two seasons.
Sooryavanshi scored 776 runs in 16 games in IPL 2026, with one century and five fifties, including two brilliant knocks in the playoffs. He also hammered 72 sixes in the season, breaking Chris Gayle’s record of 59 maximums in a single IPL edition.
Suryakumar Yadav also shared a story on Instagram for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as well. He stated that he was excited to see his journey and said that he earned his selection.
“You’ve earned it and How. Super excited to follow your journey”- Suryakumar Yadav posted on Instagram.
