Devdutt Padikkal made his India debut against Sri Lanka in the second T20I on Wednesday (July 28). The Karnataka batsman became the first player born in the 21st century to represent the Indian cricket team.
The 21-year-old made his debut along with the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Chetan Sakariya, and Nitish Rana in the second T20I in Colombo. Padikkal expressed his emotions when he received the India cap through an Instagram post.

Padikkal wrote that he dreamed of this moment 12 years back and the feeling is tough to describe in words.
"A feeling that is hard to put into words. Started dreaming of this moment as a 9 year old boy and here I am 12 years later fulfilling that ambitious childhood dream of representing my country. Not the result we wanted on the day but we go again today," he posted on Instagram with the moment when captain Shikhar Dhawan gave him the India cap.
Padikkal scored 29 off 23 balls in his maiden international match as India scored 132/5 in 20 overs. They lost the match by 4 wickets with Sri Lanka chasing down the target in 19.4 overs.
