SL v IND 2021: Whichever team he has coached, its performance has declined: Kaneria slams Arthur

Sri Lanka have lost four consecutive ODI series and five consecutive T20I series.

Mickey Arthur | GettySri Lanka was outplayed in the first T20I against India on Sunday, 25 July. The team has lost five consecutive T20I series and four consecutive ODI series. Ever since Mickey Arthur’s appointment as national coach in late 2019, the Sri Lankan team has had a tough time.

Before being appointed as Sri Lanka’s head coach, Mickey Arthur coached Pakistan and took them to the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 victory. However, there was nothing to show for the coach before and after the tournament.

His tenure with the Sri Lankan team has been worse as the team, apart from being in a transition stage, is in constant conflict with the cricket board.

Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has slammed Mickey Arthur and said that the performances of the teams he has coached have only declined. The former Pakistan cricketer said that the coach must stop giving offbeat advice and should start coming up with new strategies to improve his team’s performance.

“Mickey Arthur told his players to stop using social media, but he should rather focus on making and executing the right plans for the opposition. This is the age of social media and in a biosecure bubble, players will use it for sure. What are you doing as a coach? What have you delivered? Danish Kaneria questioned on his YouTube channel.

“You need to groom this young team and not get angry at them after a loss. Stop giving them vague suggestions. Whichever team he has coached, its performance has declined,” he stated.

Danish Kaneria, on the other hand, said that India will be the team to beat in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021.

“If this Indian team keeps on performing and executing their skills like this, and if there is a combination of this new-look team and the main team in England, then the opposition will be under serious pressure. This team is certainly a huge contender in the T20 World Cup,” Kaneria concluded.
