After winning the three-match ODI series 2-1, Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian team took on hosts Sri Lanka in the first T20I of the three-match series on Sunday (25 July).
Despite losing a few early wickets, skipper Dhawan along with the in-form batsman Suryakumar Yadav bailed India out of trouble as they managed to post a total of 164/5 in their quota of 20 overs and ended up winning the match by 38 runs, thanks to Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 4-22.
The 29-year-old leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy who represented the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2021, made his India debut in the first T20 international against hosts Sri Lanka.
Chakravarthy had a good debut as not only did he complete his quota of 4 overs but also picked his maiden wicket of the Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka in the match as at the end of the match his figures read 1-28 (4) with a decent economy of 7.
