India's wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan made his ODI debut on Sunday (July 18) against Sri Lanka in Colombo. He got off to the mark with a six on the first delivery and ended up scoring 59 runs in 42 balls.
Kishan became the first India batsman to score a half-century on debut in both T20Is and ODIs. Pandya brothers congratulated the southpaw, who also turned 23 the same day, on a memorable debut.
"Perfect start ???? And a great birthday for you, Ishu @ishankishan51 ???? @surya_14kumar bro awesome debut ???? Great all-round team performance and looking forward to the next game ????????????," wrote Krunal after the match.
Hardik was left impressed with the start of Kishan's ODI career. He also mentioned Surykumar Yadav, who received the cap with Kishan on Sunday. "What a start to your ODI career Ishu baby ???? That’s one way to celebrate your birthday @ishankishan51 ???? Special mention to @surya_14kumar - class as usual????," he tweeted.
India won the match by 7 wickets, thanks to Kishan and captain Shikhar Dhawan's half-century. Also, it was Prithvi Shaw's quickfire 43 at the top which set the tone for the run chase of 263 runs. India achieved the target in just 36.4 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
