SL v IND 2021: Sanju Samson misses out in first ODI due to knee injury

BCCI's medical team is monitoring Sanju Samson's knee injury sustained ahead of the series.

Sanju Samson | GETTYIndia's wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson was ruled out of the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Sunday (July 18). He may also miss the entire limited-overs series after sustaining a knee ligament injury during the training session. 

Ishan Kishan made his ODI debut at the R. Premadasa Stadium, along with Suryakumar Yadav. Both the cricketers had made their international debut earlier this year in T20Is against England.

BCCI's medical team confirmed Samson's injury is being monitored by them. "Sanju Samson sprained a ligament in his knee and was hence not available for selection for this game. The medical team is tracking his progress at the moment," BCCI's media team informed.

In the first ODI, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Dasun Shanaka has been handed the responsibility of leading Sri Lanka at home.

Team India will play a three-match T20I series after the ongoing ODI series.
