The Sri Lanka cricket team will take on India in a three-match ODI and T20I series this month. They are reportedly set to name a new captain, Dasun Shanaka to lead their side in the limited-overs series.
Shanaka will replace opener Kusal Perera who recently led the team to ODI and T20I series defeats in England. This is the tenth time Sri Lanka would have changed their captain since 2017.
Former India batsman Wasim Jaffer took a hilarious jibe at Sri Lanka's change in captaincy. He wrote that men don't change their display picture on social media as many times as Sri Lanka changed their captains.
"Yaar itne to ladke dp nahi badalte jitne SL ne captain badle hai," Jaffer said on Twitter.
Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Lasith Malinga, Dimuth Karunaratne, and Perera had captained the side at some point since the start of 2018.
The ODI series between Sri Lanka and India, which was set to kick-off on July 13 has been pushed to July 18. There have been COVID-19 cases in the home team's camp.
Sri Lanka's batting coach Grant Flower and data analyst G T Niroshan had tested positive for Covid-19 upon their return from the tour of England.
