SL v IND 2021: An opportunity to create future champions, Laxman on Dravid coaching India

Shikhar Dhawan-led Team India to play Sri Lanka in 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is in July 2021.

Rahul Dravid will be coaching Team India in Sri Lanka | TwitterAfter BCCI’s announcement of sending a different team for the upcoming limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka, Indian cricket was showered with heaps of praises as this indicated the depth of Indian cricket along with the success of their system.

With Virat Kohli and co. in the UK for the upcoming five-match Test series against England after the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand, a new-look Team India led by Shikhar Dhawan with Bhuvneshwar Kumar as his deputy was announced to tour Sri Lanka.

Since coach Ravi Shastri is also in England, former India skipper Rahul Dravid was appointed to coach the Men in Blue in the Island country.

The Indian contingent in Sri Lanka has completed their quarantine, and began their training for the upcoming six-match white-ball series, and former India batsman VVS Laxman talked about how Dravid has an opportunity to create future champions as the team is full of youngsters.

SL v IND 2021: Dhawan has to be amongst the runs to secure T20 World Cup spot, feels VVS Laxman

I don’t think that there is any pressure (on Dravid). It is an opportunity for him to create future champions of Indian cricket. It is not necessary that everyone will get an opportunity to play in this series, Laxman said on Star Sports.

But just spending time with Rahul and sharing his experiences, which is already done with a lot of players in the squad will just enhance their future,” he added.

The Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian team will be taking the field against Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series from 13 July followed by a three T20I series slated to begin from 21 July with all six matches to be played at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Thus, it will be interesting to see how this Indian team performs against hosts Sri Lanka.
