South Africa won the second ODI by 7 wickets to take an unassailable lead in the series.

Team India conceded 2-0 lead in the ODI series | GettySouth Africa continued their dominance over India as they won the second ODI by 7 wickets in Paarl on Friday (January 21) to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Opting to bat first, the Men in Blue posted 287/6 in their stipulated 50 overs on the back of Rishabh Pant’s 71-ball 85. Stand-in skipper KL Rahul (55) and all-rounder Shardul Thakur (40*) also made notable contributions with the bat.

Left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi was the stand-out bowler for South Africa, returning with the figures of 2 for 57 in his 9 overs.

In reply, the hosts rode on Janneman Malan’s steady 91 and Quinton de Kock’s 66-ball 78 to overhaul the target with 11 balls to spare.

Opening the innings, the duo of Malan and De Kock put on 132 runs to set the tone for the successful chase and the likes of Temba Bavuma (35), Aiden Markram (37*) and Rassie van der Dussen (37*) completed the formalities to ensure Proteas’ series-clinching victory.

Just like the opening game, India’s bowling attack looked toothless. Barring Jasprit Bumrah (1-37), no bowler managed to trouble the host batters.
