Former South African batter Ashwell Prince appreciated the courage of youngster Marco Jansen for not “backing down” against India pacer Jasprit Bumrah. He lauded Jansen for not thinking about his Indian Premier League (IPL) contract in the heated face-off.

In the second Test, Bumrah and Jansen had a verbal spat after the latter bowled a few bouncers to the Indian tailender and also gave him a stare in his follow-through. In the last Test match, the Indian pacer gave it back to the Proteas youngster after his dismissal with a sharp delivery.

“One more thing I particularly enjoyed during #SAvIND series, the fact that #MarcoJansen didn’t back down once in the battle with Bumrah," wrote Prince.

Jansen and Bumrah have played alongside each other for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021. "He didn’t think about the IPL and how it might affect his relationships with people there. He put his country 1st, the way it should be,” he added after South Africa's series win.

Jansen was very effective with the ball for South Africa in the recently concluded three-match series. In the three matches, he picked up 19 wickets at an average of 16.47 and the speedster finished with the second most number of wickets in the series.
