South Africa batter, Keegan Petersen, on Friday (January 14), said that his team’s remarkable win over world number one India in the three-match Test series “hasn't sunk in yet” while saying it was a happy and emotional ride for him throughout the home series.

On Friday, South Africa handed India a 7-wicket defeat in the series-deciding Test, as the tourists again returned with empty hands after the host clinched the home series in Cape Town.

India had won the first Test by 113 runs, but South Africa managed to bounce back in the three-match Test series, registering back-to-back wins in the second and third Test to clinch the series 2-1.

Petersen was delighted with his team’s success and his own performance against Team India, as he finished as the highest run-scorer in the three-match Test series with 276 runs and was adjudged the Player of the Series for his stunning batting performance.

Speaking in the post-match presentation, Petersen said: “It hasn't sunk in yet. It's a mixed bag, to be honest, happy, emotional. I was trying to be positive and then build on that. It's been difficult conditions all around and was just sticking to my guns. It's been a long journey, can't tell the whole story now, and won’t be over till tomorrow morning. It's been challenging surfaces, challenging bowling attacks.”

He concluded, “We knew it was going to be difficult - they're a high-quality bowling attack, a high-quality team. We just wanted to have the mindset to fight it out. Enjoying it (success) a lot. The longer you bat, the easier it gets (on these pitches). So, just enjoyed it a lot.”
